It’s the highest successful run chase in a Test. 457/6 obtained 414/4 at New Zealand on 451/10, vs 2 December 2025 by winning the game by 6 wickets. Christchurch achieved 404/3 against South Africa on Johannesburg, at 450/7 and won by 7 wickets. 18 December 2013 scored 406/4 against 450/10 at Brisbane on Johannesburg, and won by 6 wickets.

England – 654/5

England played a historic innings in Durban against South Africa. It has set a top record which is still remembered as the biggest score in the history of the highest run chase in test cricket, with 654 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, but the match ended in a draw on 3rd March 1939.

West Indies – 457/6

The West Indies recently put up a massive fight of 457 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in Christchurch. This performance on 2nd December 2025 ranks second top for the highest successful run chase in test cricket attempts that ended in a stalemate. This innings kept the match competitive throughout and demonstrated patience and control under pressure.

New Zealand – 451/10

New Zealand chased 451 runs for the loss of 10 wickets on 13 March 2002 to beat England in Christchurch. However, the team fell short, and England managed by 98 runs to secure victory after a closely contested contest.

South Africa – 450/7

South Africa's highest successful run chase in test cricket is 450 runs in Johannesburg for the loss of 7 wickets against India on 18 December 2013, which is widely considered one of the greatest draws ever played.

Pakistan – 450/10

Pakistan's 450-run performance for the loss of 10 wickets on 15 December 2016 in Brisbane is one of the important matches that stays in the headlines, which highlights the close teams that came to achieve historic fourth-innings targets. Pakistan tried to take the match to a thrilling final stage by scoring big runs, but unfortunately, Pakistan missed out on victory.

India – 445/10

This historic match between India and Australia was played on 28 January 1978 at the Adelaide ground. The Indian team batted strongly and after losing all 10 wickets in this innings, scored a huge total of 445 runs, which was quite challenging at that time. However, Australia won the match by 47 runs.

Pakistan – 443/7 

Pakistan showed tremendous control in their innings against Australia in Karachi on March 12, 2022, where batsmen put up a mammoth total of 443 runs for the loss of only 7 wickets in the stipulated time, but the result was a Match Drawn. 

New Zealand – 440/10

New Zealand registered 440/10 against England at Nottingham, but the result went in England’s favour by 38 runs, on 7 June 1973. The match is remembered for its intense finish, as New Zealand came remarkably close to completing a difficult chase. 

New Zealand – 431/10

Another high-scoring match was played between New Zealand and England in Napier on 22 March 2008. In this match, New Zealand has posted a respectable total of 431 runs for the loss of all 10 wickets, which perfectly reflects their batting depth and skills.

India – 429/8

India’s famous 429-run chase for the loss of 8 wickets against England, and the match ended in a draw on 30 August 1979. This encounter is remembered for India’s confident and controlled approach during a demanding chase, where the team has steadily built pressure and turned the game into a gripping contest.
