Hardik Pandya has once again found himself in trouble during IPL 2026. The Mumbai Indians skipper has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee and has also accumulated one Demerit Point for breaching Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
The incident took place during MI’s clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. During KKR’s run chase, Hardik was seen angrily knocking the bails off the stumps with force while walking back to his run-up, an act that eventually led to disciplinary action from the IPL.

IPL releases official statement on Hardik Pandya incident
The IPL later released an official statement regarding the matter and confirmed the reason behind the punishment handed to the MI captain.
“Hardik Pandya was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which pertains to 'abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match',” the statement read.
Mumbai Indians’ difficult IPL 2026 campaign continues
Hardik’s difficult stint with Mumbai Indians has continued in IPL 2026 as well, with the side enduring another disappointing campaign. MI have already been eliminated from the tournament after managing to win only four matches in 13 games so far.
The five-time champions have come under heavy criticism throughout the season, and immense pressure continues to mount on Hardik as captain. Under his leadership, Mumbai have failed to live up to the standards and reputation associated with one of the most successful franchises in IPL history.
Hardik also suffered a back spasm midway through the tournament, which ruled him out for a couple of weeks. However, even after his return, MI’s fortunes failed to improve, and the frustration of the experienced all-rounder has at times been clearly visible on the field.
With Mumbai enduring another poor season, questions around the team’s direction and leadership are only expected to grow stronger heading into the next edition of the tournament.
