Fresh off four straight wins, Kolkata Knight Riders carry strong momentum into their key IPL 2026 showdown versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru, last season's title holders. Their recent form fuels belief within the squad ahead of the high-stakes contest.

KKR started slow, dropping five of their first six matches this season. Still, under Ajinkya Rahane’s lead, they’ve shifted gears fast. Four games left on the schedule now. The team clings to playoff hopes despite tough odds ahead. Three past titles mean little right now - only wins matter.

Kolkata Knight Riders need a near-perfect finish to stay alive

If Kolkata wins every one of their last four matches, they could reach 17 points - seen by many as sufficient for playoff entry. Yet should they lose to RCB in Raipur, their path narrows sharply.

If things unfold that way, KKR will depend on multiple outcomes elsewhere, outcomes where most of the teams sitting above them drop points across more than half their leftover games.

Right now, the Gujarat Titans are on top with 16 points. RCB trail just behind at 14, still having three fixtures to come. Then there's Sunrisers Hyderabad, also on 14, but they’ve got two extra chances waiting.

Maybe KKR just need luck. If Punjab Kings stumble, that helps. Chennai Super Kings losing a few games would matter too. Rajasthan Royals dropping matches could shift things. Even the Delhi Capitals falling short might make space at the top. Each loss by these sides changes the picture slightly. Not much room for error, though.

Fourth place in the IPL playoffs often goes to teams with 16 points. Back in 2022, RCB made it through on that number. Not long after, the Mumbai Indians did the same - twice, actually, once in 2023 and again by 2025.

That season stood out because of what happened in 2024. Four sides ended up level: RCB, CSK, Delhi, plus Lucknow, all stuck at 14. The edge went to RCB, though. Their run rate tipped the balance, letting them move forward.

Right now, eight out of every ten teams in the IPL could still make it to the playoffs for 2026. Not everyone has been ruled out; most are hanging on by numbers.
