A run fest in Goa lived up to its billing as Dubai Royals edged past Gurugram Thunders by just three runs in a high scoring thriller in the fourth match of the World Legends Pro T20 League 2026.

Batting first Dubai Royals produced a commanding display to post 200 for 5 in their 20 overs. The Royals showed intent from the outset and maintained momentum through the innings which kept the Thunders bowlers under constant pressure.

Samit Patel anchors the innings

The Royals’ innings was anchored by Samit Patel who played a match defining knock. He remained unbeaten on 65 off just 32 balls combining clean hitting with smart placement. With support from the other batters the Royals fully exploited the batting friendly conditions to breach the 200 run mark for the first time in the league.

Despite the onslaught Gurugram Thunders managed to fight back with disciplined spells in the latter stages. Thisara Perera was the standout with the ball finishing with figures of 2 overs for 24 runs while the bowling unit regrouped well in the death overs to prevent further damage.

Pujara leads spirited chase

Chasing 201 Gurugram Thunders responded with aggression led by a classy knock from Cheteshwar Pujara. The experienced batter showed a more attacking side striking at over a run a ball and registering his first half century of the tournament. Perera added momentum with an explosive cameo at a strike rate close to 200 to keep the chase alive.

The match went down to the wire with seven runs needed from the final over. Piyush Chawla relied on his vast experience to deliver under pressure. Pujara fell agonisingly short of a century dismissed on 99 as Chawla closed out the over to seal a dramatic three run win for the Royals.

The victory marked Dubai Royals first win of the season after their opening day defeat. Gurugram Thunders meanwhile suffered a second narrow loss once again coming close but falling just short in another thrilling contest.
