In a massive blow to Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of their upcoming IPL 2026 clash against Punjab Kings on Thursday. His absence comes at a time when MI are already under pressure after a poor run of results.
Rohit had picked up a hamstring injury during the previous match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru while batting in the run chase. He was forced to walk off after retiring hurt in the sixth over and did not return.
Rohit was batting on 19 off 13 balls when he was forced to retire hurt, as Mumbai Indians eventually went down by 18 runs — their third consecutive loss this season.
"The medical team and the coaching staff are assessing him and we will get to know," a team official said during MI’s training session on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, England all-rounder Will Jacks is “on his way” to link up with the Mumbai Indians squad, after missing all four matches so far this season and also set to sit out Thursday’s game.
Jacks, along with New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner, who has featured in two matches so far, had requested an extended break before joining the squad in India.
