NEW DELHI: The BCCI’s top brass, led by president Mithun Manhas and secretary Devajit Saikia, praised the calmness and tactical maturity shown by the Indian team after its victory over England to clinch a record-extending sixth Under-19 World Cup title in Harare on Friday.

India thumped England by 100 runs in the final, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi producing a breathtaking 175 off just 80 balls to round off an unbeaten and commanding campaign.

A reflection of India’s age-group strength

"Winning the Under-19 World Cup for the sixth time is a remarkable achievement and a reflection of India's strength in age-group cricket. This team played with confidence and character throughout the tournament," said BCCI chief Manhas.

"Holding both the men's and women's Under-19 World Cup titles is a matter of immense pride and highlights the depth of our cricketing structure," he added.

The triumph was seen as a strong validation of the Board’s sustained focus on structured player development and excellence at the grassroots and junior levels.

Strong systems behind sustained success

Saikia credited India’s continued age-group dominance to a solid domestic framework, committed support staff and a well-defined talent identification process.

"This outstanding achievement is a testament to the strength of a robust system built on long-term player development, competitive domestic structures, quality coaching programmes supported by dedicated technical staff and a strong talent identification process.

"Age-group cricket remains a key priority and the BCCI will continue to invest in and strengthen these foundations for the future. Well done, boys! The nation is immensely proud of you," he said.

Praise for coaching staff and Centre of Excellence

The BCCI also acknowledged the work done by head coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar, the support staff and VVS Laxman, Head of Cricket at the Centre of Excellence, crediting them for building a clear and effective pathway for young cricketers.

"The BCCI places on record its appreciation for Head Coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar and his support staff for guiding the team with clarity and purpose. Special acknowledgement is also due to VVS Laxman, Head of Cricket, BCCI Centre of Excellence, whose vision and roadmap for India's age-group ecosystem have played a vital role in ensuring continuity, consistency, and a seamless pathway from junior to elite cricket.

"The Centre of Excellence also played a critical role by providing ideal preparation for a marquee tournament," the BCCI said in a statement.

It further lauded the Junior Cricket Committee for its meticulous selection process, which helped assemble a balanced and formidable squad capable of performing in varied conditions.
