Zack Ryder made a surprise return to WWE on SmackDown last Friday, and he took part in the ongoing tournament to determine the last ever opponent of John Cena. Ryder remained out of WWE for over 5 years, and he was released from the promotion back in 2020. He was a victim of the covid-19 pandemic budget cut at WWE.
Zack Ryder is doing a great job outside of WWE under the ring name Matt Cardona, and he has achieved a lot of success all over the independent circuit. LA Knight was supposed to be a part of the ongoing tournament, and he was about to take on a surprise opponent. And this surprise opponent turned out to be Ryder, but ultimately, he was beaten by the Megastar.
Zack Ryder revealed that his return to WWE is a last minute decision
It has not been confirmed whether Ryder has returned to WWE on a full time basis or it was just a one match return. Nonetheless, the fans are extremely happy to see one of their favourites returning to WWE after a long time. Ryder recently talked about his surprise return to WWE and how it was a last minute decision. Speaking on his “The Major Wrestling Figure” podcast, he explained the following;

“I do want to — It was so last-minute that TTD couldn’t design gear for me. That’s how last-minute it was because of the time zone, man. You know what I’m saying? Like that’s how last-minute it was. So, thank God, Rick Michaels, I will say this. I like dealing with TTD for designs better than Rick Michaels because it was like pulling teeth to get this together. That’s his — TDD is the man.
"So, obviously, these are, you know, it’s a very TDD-inspired off old gear that I had, but it was done in 24 hours. I was like, is this going to show up to the New York City hotel? And it did. Thank God. I had like Matt Cardona gear, that first of all, I had Matt Cardona gear just in case I was Matt Cardona.
Dolph Ziggler also made his return to WWE on RAW last Monday
"I had this, and then I had like makeshift Zack Ryder gear from Matt Cardona. Sorry, makeshift Zack Ryder gear from Matt Cardona gear that didn’t have an MC on it, just in case this didn’t show up. So, I had three sets of gear with me. It was wild.”
Zack Ryder is not the only star who has returned to WWE to take part in this tournament. Dolph Ziggler also made a sensational return to be a part of it on RAW last Monday. Surprisingly, both of these wrestlers lost their respective matches. So far, it has not been confirmed whether either of these two wrestlers has been brought back on a full time basis.
