Gunther is indeed one of the biggest stars of WWE right now, and having a match with him is more like a dream for newer professional wrestlers. Ever since he joined WWE, he has produced some amazing matches both in the NXT UK (one of the developmental territories of WWE) and on the main roster too.
One of the best matches The Ring General produced after making the main roster debut was against Sheamus at the Clash at the Castle event of 2022. This was a five star match, and the Austrian professional wrestler showed the main roster audience what he was capable of. Instantly after this match, he earned a large fan base.

Sheamus regrets missing out on dream match with Gunther
The Celtic Warrior recently revealed that he pushed really hard to have a dream rematch against The Ring General at WrestleMania XL, but unfortunately, the former four times World Champion suffered a neck injury, which forced him out of the event. He recently spoke on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast, where he expressed his regret about missing out on this match;

“In another reality, and I came back early at the Rumble, maybe that could have been the one [Sheamus vs. Gunther for the IC Title at WrestleMania XL]. That’s the one regret I have. That was where I felt like, ‘It should have been me and him at WrestleMania last year.’
“I just felt like, the history we had, the battles, the physicality, the way we played it out — it would have been a great ending to that feud,” he said.
The 37 year old had a huge push following his main roster debut as he became the longest reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion as well as a two times World Heavyweight Champion. He also won the King of the Ring tournament of 2024. No doubt he is one of the biggest stars of WWE right now.
