Chris Jericho left WWE in 2017, and he has been out of the promotion for the last eight years. He was really unhappy after he and Kevin Owens were tripped out of the WWE Universal Championship picture at WrestleMania 33. Originally, these two wrestlers were planned to battle for the WWE Universal title at the mentioned event, and they worked really hard throughout 2016 to build up this match.

But at the end, Vince McMahon thought Chris Jericho vs Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33 would not be a very good option, and he decided to give the Championship to Goldberg, who defended the title against Brock Lesnar at the mentioned event. Jericho and Owens battled for the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

“And if I was booking it, it would be number, like, 10. And he stays to the end. Like, I remember when he first came back with us, he was in like number two, or number one or number two or number three, and he went all the way to the end.” said DDP, who predicted Jericho would return at Royal Rumble as a surprise entrant in the men's Royal Rumble match.
