Kurt Angle was one of the biggest names in the history of professional wrestling, and he was also a huge name during his prime. He has worked in multiple major wrestling promotions, but he earned most of his success from WWE. He started working in WWE back in 1999 and before becoming a professional wrestler he won a gold medal in the Olympics.

After having a glorious career in the world of professional wrestling, he decided to retire in 2019. His final match took place back in WrestleMania 35 against Baron Corbin, and it is indeed one of the worst retirement matches in WWE history. Vince McMahon had to go through a lot of criticism for producing this match.

Why Kurt Angle retired in 2019

After this retirement match, Kurt Angle never returned to in ring action despite making a number of appearances in WWE. Recently he spoke with The Undertaker on his “Six Feet Under” podcast, he remembered his retirement maths and also revealed why he decided to retire at WrestleMania 35. He said;

Kurt Angle is a six times World Champion in WWE

“Then all of a sudden he’s like, ‘Kurt, I want you to wrestle.’ Uh, that’s gonna be a problem [laughs]. I literally, when I got in there, I looked like crap. I couldn’t do anything. It made me want to retire earlier than I wanted to. That’s why I retired with Baron Corbin at WrestleMania because I didn’t want people to look at me and say, ‘Gosh, he used to be great, but now.’ I didn’t want that. So I decided that this is it.”

He also provided update on his health, “Yeah, I feel pretty good. The only thing that bothers me now is I have motor skill problems. My hands shake ’cause my neck is so bad. And there’s nothing I can do about it. My neck naturally fused together, I think I already told you that. So I don’t have any more discs in between my vertebrae. I went to have a disc replacement surgery. The doctor took an MRI and he said you don’t have any discs. Yeah, he said it’s all fused together. It’s all bone.”

Kurt Angle never returned to the wrestling ring after his terrible match against Baron Corbin from WrestleMania 35 as his neck injury kept getting worsened. His retirement match will always be remembered as one of the worst retirement matches in professional wrestling history, and Vince McMahon will also have to hear criticism forever for booking it.
