John Cena's heel turn had been a long time request by a large number of fans for a long time. This request had been on the table since the very first date of the PG Era. Older fans were really bored of seeing the same heroic character played by Cena. They desperately wanted to see a heel run of the Champ.

But their request was never granted by Vince McMahon as long as he was the owner of WWE. The fans finally gave up on seeing the dream heel turn of John Cena. But this long time, which was finally granted by Triple H earlier this year, as Cena turned heel for the first time in over 20 years.

Vince Russo criticized WWE for the failure of John Cena's heel run

This had been a dream move, and the old school fans were extremely happy to see this turn. But surprisingly, the much awaited heel run of Cena could never be as good as everybody thought it would be. Ultimately, it turned out to be a huge failure. Wrestling legend Vince Russo recently criticized WWE for ruining the heel of Cena. Speaking on “The Coach & Bro” show, he said the following;

John Cena turned heel at the end of the Elimination Chamber event

“If you really believe that there aren’t going to be any ramifications to this, think about this, Coach. We’ve succeeded in p*sing off John Cena and The Rock. Those are two very powerful people. And if I’m Triple H, those are the last two people that I would want to p*s off. I would be going out of my way to make those people happy because, let’s face it, those are the most powerful people besides him.”

“Here’s why I’m getting back to creative, and I’m getting back to bad creative. Coach, Rollins has nobody to work with. There’s nobody for Rollins to work with. They just made that match with Cody Rhodes. That was an absolutely nothing throwaway match. That match happened because neither guy had an opponent.

John Cena returned to his babyface character before SummerSlam

"So, now that the match is over, here’s Seth with the belt and no opponent. Why does he have no opponent? Because they haven’t built an opponent. That’s what the creative is supposed to do. Guess what, Coach? Now, Seth Rollins has two opponents. That’s exactly why they cut that thing short.” said Vince Russo regarding the failed run of Cena.

The fans were extremely unhappy with what they were delivered in the form of the heel run of John Cena. It felt like Triple H only wanted to deliver the dream move, but he never had any planning after turning Cena heel. Indeed, it was the creative failure, WWE's huge opportunity of using Cena as a heel.
