John Cena has already announced that this is going to be his final year in professional wrestling, and he will retire by the end of this year. He made this announcement last year, and he started his retirement tour and the first episode of RAW of 2025, which was also the Netflix RAW premiere.
John Cena has done a lot of things in his retirement tour so far. He set a new record of holding the World Championship for the highest number of times, which is 17. He also had his first ever world championship run as a heel. He had a heel run in WWE for the first time in 22 years.

WWE Hall of Famer believes John Cena should not win his retirement match
After dropping the World Championship at SummerSlam to Cody Rhodes, it is pretty much clear that he is not going back for the World Championship anymore, and Brock Lesnar looks to be his final opponent. WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley believed that he should not win his final match, and it would not be a good look for the promotion. Speaking on the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, he explained;
John Cena is a 17 times World Champion
“I’m a traditionalist. I believe he should lose. I’m going to ask you the question, then tell me if your answer is still GUNTHER. What one person in the WWE can benefit the most for their future in a final match against John Cena?”
“But is there really big heels in the WWE? Are they going to allow GUNTHER to be the type of heel? Not like a Logan Paul heel where he’s just a d*ck and you want to see him get punched in the face. Are they going to let GUNTHER be that type of heel?”

Brock Lesnar looks to be the final opponent of Cena
“Can’t you still get your ultimate celebration if he loses? Don’t you think the fact that it’s going to be John’s last night and it’s going to be in Boston, do you really think people are going to care that he gets pinned?”
Since Brock Lesnar is already an established star, and he seriously does not need to retire John Cena, a number of names have emerged as the candidates to get the honour of retiring The Champ. Among them, Bron Breakker and Gunther are still favorites. Other newer talents can also be considered to do the honor.
