Gunther has received really strong bookings in 2025, as not only did he win the World Heavyweight Championship for the second time, but he also retired as one of the biggest names in the history of professional wrestling in 2025, along with Goldberg and John Cena. He is presently heavily rumoured to retire another top name, and that is going to be Brock Lesnar.
Recent reports suggest that Gunther and Brock Lesnar will wrestle in a huge match at the upcoming WrestleMania 42 event, which has the potential to be the retirement match of the Beast Incarnate. The Ring General is reportedly going to be the name who will retire the former 10 times WWE World Champion.

Vince Russo thinks Gunther should not end the career of Brock Lesnar
Lesnar recently made a sensational return to WWE, and he started things off by squashing John Cena. Reports are suggesting that he is getting this big push just to put over the Austrian professional. But wrestling veteran Vince Russo explained recently why he should not beat Lesnar. Speaking on “The Coach & Bro Show,” he explained the following;
Brock Lesnar recently returned to WWE after remaining absent for a couple of years
“What would possess you to think that GUNTHER can be Brock Lesnar when he lost to Sami Zayn? Seriously, the guy lost to Sami Zayn. The guy lost to Jey Uso. He’s gonna beat Brock Lesnar? In what universe is that gonna happen?” said the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion.

Gunther recently defeated John Cena in his farewell match
The Ring General had a long, undefeated streak, which was ultimately ended at WrestleMania XL when he lost his WWE Intercontinental Championship to Sami Zayn. He lost the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Jey Uso at WrestleMania XL. It is definitely not going to be a very good look for him if he goes on to beat Lesnar.
But he has also received strong victories over some of the biggest names in wrestling history, as most recently he ended the career of John Cena. It has established him as the most hated heel of WWE right now, and he can definitely end the career of Lesnar. About losing to Sami Zayn and Jey Uso, not everything is perfect in WWE these days.
