Dominik Mysterio had been carrying the WWE Intercontinental Championship since WrestleMania 41. He challenged for the title in a fatal 4 way match where the previous champion, Bron Breakker, defended the title with Finn Balor and Penta also being involved. Dirty Dom came out victorious in this match, and since then, he has been carrying the title.
Last Monday on RAW, Dominik Mysterio confronted John Cena, who was making his final appearance at his hometown of Boston. The segment ended up being a WWE Intercontinental Championship Match where John Cena got the opportunity to win the title for the first time in his career. Ultimately, he defeated Mysterio to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship and become a WWE Grand Slam Champion.
Big E shared praise for Dominik Mysterio
After working in this match, Dirty Dom received praise from multiple big wrestling figures, as former WWE Champion and retired professional wrestler Big E also talked about this historical match, and he also shared praise for Dom. Speaking on the “RAW Recap” podcast, he said the following;
Dominik Mysterio recently dropped the WWE IC Championship to Cena
“I know that it’s a losing effort, but I do love this for Dom. We have what, four more weeks of John Cena’s career, and Dominik Mysterio is not in a squash match with John Cena. He’s going toe to toe with John Cena, he’s getting mic time with John Cena.”
“I understand that he lost the title to Cena. But I think this was a big moment for Dom. ‘Passing of the torch moment’ might not be the right way to put it, but I think it is a big co-sign that yeah, Dom is a guy who we’re going to invest in for a long time.”
John Cena became a WWE Grand Slam champion after winning the IC title
“He didn’t get the job done, but I love this for Dom. And I think this is going to be a moment we look back on when Dom is a world champion, who knows, a year, two years from now, whenever that time comes.” he continued, “I think we’ll look back at pivotal moments in his career, his ascension to that top spot, and we’ll look at this as a great moment in his career.”
Dominik Mysterio may have lost the WWE Intercontinental Championship, but it is definitely not his end, as he is presently projected as one of the future top stars of the promotion. He is also heavily rumored to challenge Cena for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at the upcoming Survivor Series event. We can even expect him to feature on the World title picture soon.
