WWE is always very consistent about keeping the Kayfabe alive, and they always request their wrestlers to maintain their on screen characters in public. Chris Jericho was once beaten down for his on screen action during a storyline with Shawn Michaels in 2008, but Jericho remained in character.

Serena Deeb, who was one of the biggest prospects of WWE during the early PG era of the promotion, was released not for maintaining her character among the general public. There are many more examples where WWE took action against their wrestlers for not maintaining the Kayfabe.

But this rule was mostly applicable during the Vince McMahon era of WWE, and nowadays they are a little lenient. Former five times World Champion recently revealed how she broke her character once. She discussed the reason behind breaking the character shortly after the incident on "Chasing Glory" of Lilian Garcia. She said;

"Don't let anyone ever tell you that you can't do anything ... even though you're struggling, I've been there," Bliss said. "You know what I mean? Bliss was out of action for a long time with maternity leave. She made a sensational return during the Royal Rumble event of 2025, and presently, she is active on WWE SmackDown. She is not pushed as a main event star anymore, like she has always been, but it is always very exciting to see her on the screen.
