WWE recently announced a 16 men tournament which will take place on SmackDown and RAW. The winner of the tournament will get the honour to face John Cena in his retirement match at the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event on December 13. The tournament will start on RAW next week, and two of the matches have already been announced.
Gunther is heavily rumored to be the final opponent of Cena at the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event. Still, he has not been announced for the tournament yet, and The Ring General is presently inactive with WWE due to multiple injuries he suffered during his SummerSlam match against CM Punk.

Vince McMahon would have hated the idea of a tournament to determine John Cena's final opponent
The idea of organising a tournament to determine the final opponent of Cena also received criticism from the wrestling community. WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley recently claimed that Vince McMahon would have hated this idea since he never liked tournaments. Speaking on the “Busted Open Radio” podcast recently, he said the following;
John Cena will wrestle his final match on December 13
“I’m not a fan of the tournament idea. I’d be willing to bet a dollar that if Vince McMahon knew about this tournament, he would be destroying his own home. ‘My god, a tournament!’ Vince hated tournaments.

John Cena's final opponent will be selected by a 16 man tournament
“I wanted this to be built up. I wanted the anticipation to be built up, especially if you already know who’s going to win the tournament. You can build up the anticipation, because whoever loses in the first round, second round, third round, they’re just going by the waste side.” said the tag team legend.
John Cena did not appear after his iconic match against AJ Styles from the Crown Jewel event in Perth. He is presently rumored to challenge Dominik Mysterio for the WWE Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series. The reported plan is to make him a Grand Slam Champion, and he is also rumored to defend the Championship at his final match.
