2010 is considered one of the worst years in WWE history. But some of the good things about this year had been the much awaited WWE World Heavyweight Championship run of Kane and the rise of the Nexus. The concept of this faction was something really new, and the fans were totally hooked on this storyline. Had been one of the biggest reasons behind the success of the promotion during the time.

In the same year, WWE started the NXT competition. Florida Championship Wrestling was the developmental territory of WWE back then, and it was not NXT. 2010 was the year when NXT was founded, and it was a talent hunt competition much like Tough Enough. The storyline was something like this: the competitors of the NXT were frustrated with the way WWE treated them, and they went on a revolt.

The Nexus

Edge remembered the failure of the Nexus

In an episode of RAW in June 2010, John Cena was having a match with CM Punk. Suddenly, eight rookies from the NXT competition interfered, and they started beating down each and every one who was on the ring side. Their main target had been John Cena, but they beat down the referee, the commentators, the officials who tried to stop them, a cameraman, and even the ring announcer.

The Nexus made its WWE debut back in 2010

The Nexus was destined to be a huge deal, but once again, they had to fall for the heroism of John Cena as WWE preferred to go with putting over Cena rather than putting over the new faction, Nexus. WWE Hall of Famer Edge recently remembered The Nexus and explained why it failed. Speaking on the “Inside The Ropes” podcast, he said;

The Nexus John Cena

It was dissolved back in 2011

“We just felt like you got a group of heels here who got some steam, and that can be rare. So you want to try and capitalize on that. And it really dawned on me — I want to say it was Sacramento — and it was Team WWE and Nexus. We were all lined up, and you could feel the building rumbling. I was like, oh, this is… this is something. We got something here.”

“So when I heard the finish, I was like, that’s going to kill off what is already happening. That seems a shame. But at the end of the day, it’s like, you know, I don’t write the finishes. So all you can do is pitch your idea. But, you know, contrary to what everyone seems to believe, it’s up to the final boss to decide who goes over.”
