And that is exactly what he did. Austin went on to become the biggest name in sports entertainment in the upcoming days, and no one can deny the fact that this match played a vital role in promoting him as a top star. Austin recently remembered this match and explained why it still holds so special corner in his heart. Speaking with the “Dirty Mo Media” podcast, he said the following;

Steve Austin was defeated by Bret Hart in a Submission Match at WrestleMania 13

“That match at WrestleMania 13, I knew I had those people from Jump Street. I dived on him, started whipping his ***, and we go into the barricade. I started bleeding like a stuck pig. And finally, after a couple of attempts, he turns me over to that sharpshooter, and I’m lying there, and I’m in a push-up position, and I’m trying to escape.

This match is considered the beginning main event run of Austin

"And we love working in Chicago because, first of all, the fans are terrific, and the acoustics in that building—that’s a wooden ceiling. So when they yell, you get an immediate response. I was laying there bleeding like a stuck pig. That moment was finishing that match, executing a double turn, and laying there. I just worked my a** off, and so did Bret; he really brought it that match.”

Steve Austin started this match as a heel, and Bret Hart was the babyface of this match, but at the end of the match, Austin was standing as the face, and Bret Hart was the heel. Such an impactful match is still quite rare to find in the wrestling world. In one year time, Austin won the WWE World Championship at WrestleMania XIV by defeating Shawn Michaels, and it was the ultimate beginning of Austin 3:16.
