Sonya Deville is presently inactive in the world of professional wrestling, and she was released from WWE in February earlier this year after her contract was over. The promotion decided not to extend her contract, and in July, it was reported that she had decided to retire from professional wrestling; however, she did not rule out the potential chance of returning to the ring in the future.

Sonya Deville was introduced in front of the WWE fans as she became a part of the Tough Enough competition of 2015, and after this competition, she got a chance to work in the NXT, which is the developmental territory of WWE. She spent a couple of years in the NXT, and in 2017, she was promoted to the main roster. During her early career, she was mostly treated as a lower mid card.

Her storyline with Mandy Rose became quite famous, at the duo even had a series of matches. But after losing to Mandy Rose SummerSlam event of 2020, she started working as an on screen non wrestling personnel. She returned to the ring in 2022, 1920 3 she won her first ever professional wrestling championship, which was the women's Tag Team title with Chelsea Green.

But she could not enjoy the title Run for long as she suffered a torn ACL injury, which kept her out of action for a long time. She returned to action in mid 2024, but after getting released from WWE in early 2025, she decided not to return to the ring. Recently, she spoke with CJ Perry on her “Identity Crisis” podcast, where she revealed the following about her release and how she feels about it;

Her professional wrestling career stretched over a decade

“It’s almost a blessing it wasn’t a crossroad I had to come to or a decision I had to make. It was like the universe made it for me. And so that could only mean one thing. Maybe that comes from my strong faith, the faith in the universe… Even when bad things happen, I am able to see the good. I knew right away I had been complacent and stagnant for a few years.

"I felt like I couldn’t get out of a box that I was in, and some of that wasn’t in my control. I just wasn’t able to do what I know I am capable of at that time with the company. So when they let me go, it was like, ‘Oh, I get to go take all of that amazing stuff and do it somewhere else.’ The promo aspect and character work was the highlights of my WWE career, it’s not the physicality necessarily.” concluded Sonya Deville.
