Rusev has made a sensational return to WWE recently, and he is active on the episodes of Monday Night RAW. He is presently being treated as a mid card, and he is regularly featured in mid card matches and even on title pictures. Previously, he was under contract with WWE for over a decade, and he was one of the top stars of WWE during his early career.

He made his main roster debut as a surprise participant in the Royal Rumble match of 2014, and he was quite impressive in his main roster debut. He survived in the match for over 7 minutes, and it took 4 wrestlers to eliminate him from the Rumble match. He started working regularly on the main roster from the same year.

Rusev remembers his early WWE career

Rusev was treated as a mid card wrestler during his early career, and he had been quite impressive in the main roster, much like his NXT career. He won the WWE United States Championship three times in total during his first main event run and became extremely famous after starting to play the Rusev Day storyline.

In 2020, he was released from WWE, and he joined AEW. He remained active in the promotion for 5 years before returning to WWE earlier this year. After losing to Jey Uso clean on RAW last Monday, things we can quite clear that WWE does not have many big plans for him. Recently, he spoke about "Identity Crisis," where he recalled his difficult early beginnings. He stated the following;

Rusev recently returned to WWE

"Rikishi got me a tryout at 2010 SummerSlam in Los Angeles and they liked me, they signed me, they gave me a contract," he explained. "All of a sudden, I find myself in developmental WWE, green as grass. I had no idea. And then started I broke my knee, broke my neck. That set me back a little bit. But then in developmental I spent like a year and a half probably at most and then made it to the to the main roster. So my career really fast kind of like took off."

"It's so hard to find the identity because that's also another challenge is, when you go to developmental, it's like, hey who you are? And you're like, I'm Miro from Bulgaria. I came to be a professional wrestler. But that doesn't work out for anybody, brother. You need to find something more entertaining right?

“You need to find that character that's going to draw these people, the eyes, the money ... that took me a while," he stated. "I started going watching all my favorite bad guys from like Kickboxer, Blood Sport from the 80s and all these. That's how I started drawing inspiration for my character." Said Rusev.
