Rusev has returned to WWE recently, and he has been working on singles competitions ever since returning to the promotion. He is mostly being treated as a mid card wrestler, and he is continuously wrestling for the WWE Intercontinental Championship, and despite not being able to win the title, he still remains a strong contender.
The Bulgarian Brute was released from WWE during the covid-19 pandemic era, and he went to AEW. He had been a successful wrestler in WWE as he had been a three times WWE United States Champion. He became extremely famous among the WWE fans when he started playing the gimmick of Rusev Day. But he turned out to be one of the victims of the pandemic.

Rusev discusses working with Jey Uso
He did not get to do anything special in AEW apart from winning the AEW TNT Championship soon after joining the promotion. Much like a lot of wrestlers, AEW had no clue about what to do with him. Ultimately, he was released from the promotion in 2025 after having a forgettable career. He was limited to sporadic appearances most of the time in AEW.
Rusev returned to WWE just a number of months ago
He returned to WWE in 2025, and he is doing a fairly decent job so far. He is also receiving regular bookings in the promotion, and he is working on Monday Night RAW. Recently, he remembered working with Jey Uso in a house show in Japan, and he shared his experience about it. Speaking with Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports, he explained the following;

He also talked about creating his redeemer character
“I had to light a fire behind him because I wanted to go, man. I told him, ‘I’m going so hard, and I’m not going to apologize, because I had a period of time where I’d have one match, not knowing when the next match is coming.’ That’s a very scary situation. Now we have this hot crowd in Japan. Let’s freaking go! Let’s give it 150%.”
He also talkedabout creating his Redeemer character, “You go out in the wild, in the dark, in the abyss, and have to figure everything out for yourself. You don’t have the producers or the creative team… I dug deep inside myself to find out who I am and what I wanted to stand for. From there, we started developing ‘The Redeemer’ character.” said the former three times WWE United States Champion Rusev.
