Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes' third encounter remains a big talking point, and a large number of fans are waiting to see this match for a long time. Previously, this match was heavily rumoured for WrestleMania 43, and it was also reported that in the third encounter, Cody Rhodes will be the heel, and Roman Reigns will be presented as the babyface.
This year, Reigns was rumoured to challenge Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship, and Cody Rhodes, on the other hand, was supposed to defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton. But with Rollins suffering an injury, it looks like neither of these two big matches is happening at WrestleMania 42.
Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes may not take place at WrestleMania 42
WWE were reportedly in a hurry to save WrestleMania 42 by booking the much awaited Reigns vs. Rhodes match at the event. However, recent reports from Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggest that this match is definitely happening, but it is presently not considered for WrestleMania. He said the following;

“The other story was Rhodes and Reigns having words at the end of the match. It’s been confirmed to us that a Rhodes vs. Reigns match for the WWE title is in the plans, although not necessarily at WrestleMania. Rollins vs. Breakker, Reigns vs. Punk, and Rhodes against someone else could be done.”
Cody Rhodes is the favourite to carry the Undisputed WWE Championship to WrestleMania 42
Reigns was also reported to win the men's Royal Rumble match of 2026 in order to challenge for a desired World Championship at WrestleMania 42. But recent reports also suggest that he will not win the Royal Rumble match anymore; he will feature in a different match, which may not be necessary to be a World Championship match.
Bron Breakker is reportedly the favourite to win the men's Royal Rumble match of 2026, who is heavily rumoured to challenge CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42. She is reportedly winning the Royal Rumble match to earn the right to face CM Punk for the title.
