Mick Foley was one of the biggest stars of the early WWE Attitude Era, and he is also considered a big reason behind the ultimate success of WWE during his time in the promotion. He was treated as a mid card during his early days in WWE, but as his popularity kept increasing, the promotion had no other choice but to promote him as a top star.

He instantly became a fan favourite after his amazing spot at the King of the Ring event of 1998, where the Undertaker threw him from on top of the cell, and he directly crashed on the announce table. In a January episode of Monday Night RAW of 1999, he defeated The Rock to win the WWE Championship, and from this show onwards, he could never beat WWE in the ratings war.

Mick Foley revealed the name who helped him come up with Mandible Claw

One of the most iconic things about midpolies was his finisher, Mandible Claw, where he put a shock on his hand and put it directly inside his opponent's mouth. Recently, The Hardcore Legend remembered this move and revealed that it was Jim Cornette who helped him come up with this move. Speaking on the “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” podcast, he said the following;

Mick Foley is a three times WWE World Champion

“I apologize to every younger sister or brother who had that happen. Jim Cornette gave me the idea, and it’s based on Dr. Sam Sheppard, who was the physician that both the TV show and later the movie The Fugitive was based. I’m not a historian like Corny is, but I believe that he was not guilty, but in that state, that wasn’t the same as being exonerated.

"So whether he would not practice medicine or could not, I don’t know, but he wrestled for a while in a couple of the Southern territories, and kind of slight a build, and they explained away his lack of physique by amplifying his knowledge of the human anatomy. So the idea is mandible claw, two fingers under the tongue.

Mick Foley retired from in ring action in January 2012

"They press down simultaneously on the nerves lying underneath the tongue while also simultaneously pressing up with the thumb on the nerve underneath the chin. And if you do it, you cannot move. So that hurts. And if a guy like Danny Hodge had that incredible hand strength, if Danny Hodge were to put that on somebody, that person’s life would change.”

Unfortunately, Mick Foley's professional wrestling career came short due to unwanted injuries. He could not continue working regularly in the ring after WrestleMania 2000, but he kept on appearing in the ring occasionally. He even had some excellent matches with the likes of Randy Orton and Edge. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in the class of 2013.
