Matt Hardy's AEW career is mostly forgettable despite its stretched over to four years. When the promotion opened in 2019, they were signing each and every wrestler that was getting released from WWE. Even when the world was dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, AEW never looked bothered about that situation, and they kept on signing wrestlers.
Matt Hardy was another wrestler who was signed by the promotion. After a point, it was never understood why they signed him and many other wrestlers. It looked more like they competed with WWE, and they kept on signing wrestlers. But they had absolutely no idea about what to do with most of them.

Matt Hardy shares his regrets about his AEW career
Ultimately, Matt was released from WWE in 2024, and he returned to TNA Wrestling, where he is doing an amazing job right now. These 4 years of his career have been quite forgettable and he is not very happy himself about his AEW run. Speaking on his “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast, he explained the following about his AEW career;
Matt Hardy was under contract with AEW for 4 years
“During those times in AEW, there were moments where both Jeff and I — especially me, when I was there and not really doing much — it made me question why I was still doing this. I love wrestling, but at that point, it didn’t really feel like something I loved.”

He did not get to win any Championships in AEW
“I think we would like to do something proper to wind things down. And we’ve said this a couple of times in WWE, and then maybe off into the sunset and do the Hall of Fame. I would want to do the TNA and the WWE Hall of Fame and I think Jeff would as well.” said Matt, regarding his regrets about his four year long All Elite Wrestling that ended last year, and he returned to TNA Wrestling.
After Matt Hardy returned to WWE, he teamed up with his brother Jeff Hardy again, and together they are doing an amazing job. They won the TNA Tag Team titles, and they also became the first wrestlers in history to win WWE titles while being under contract with TNA Wrestling, as they won the NXT Tag Team titles recently. Matt is still doing an amazing job at the age of 51.
