ECW was one of the leading professional wrestling promotions during the 90s, but unfortunately, it went bankrupt in 2001 and was purchased by Vince McMahon. In 2006, McMahon decided to capitalize on the fame of ECW by resurrecting the promotion, and it started running on a parallel basis with SmackDown and RAW.

At first, the newly resurrected brand was treated equally to SmackDown and RAW, but later, the glory of the show started to decrease. Initially, Vince McMahon utilized the original design of the ECW Championship as the ultimate prize for the 2006 ECW brand; however, in 2008, he decided to modify the design.

Mark Henry reveals the reason behind WWE changing the design of the ECW Championship

Mark Henry, who was holding the Championship during the redesign, recently remembered the incident and shared an insider about why WWE decided to change the design of the original ECW Championship. While appearing as a guest on Isaiah 1's YouTube Channel, Mark Henry revealed the following;

Mark Henry became the ECW Champion in 2008

"They wanted to find a title that fit me because if you look at those pictures, that ECW title was very small and it was like one of the old school type belts. And they wanted me to have a belt that was befitting of a giant and so they designed this.

It was his first World Championship

"I mean that belt was, man, it was huge and it was probably about 10 to 12 pounds. It was very, very heavy and I had to go buy a new bag for a carry-on because it wouldn't fit in my old luggage. Yeah, I had a feeling that was the reason why they changed the ECW title." Revealed the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Mark Henry was always treated in WWE as a mid card star, but in 2008, he won the ECW Championship, which turned out to be his first world title. Later in 2011, he also won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship after he defeated Randy Orton at the Night of Champions event. Henry recently returned to WWE on a legends deal.
