The fake retirement segment of Mark Henry is still remembered as one of the best segments of that particular time period. Henry was playing a heel character back then in 2013. Suddenly, he interfered with the segment of John Cena, and he was well dressed. Since he was not in a wrestling gear, it looks like he was about to announce something very special.
He entered the ring and shocked the entire world by announcing that he was going to retire from in ring action. John Cena also left him in the ring to let him say whatever he wanted. Mark Henry delivered a really emotional speech remembering everything he did, and the fans were completely fooled by this segment.

Mark Henry delivered a fake retirement speech in 2013
After the speech, Cena entered the ring and wanted to congratulate Henry by shaking hands. Henry shocked everyone by hitting a World's Strongest Slam on Cena, making it clear that the retirement was completely fake. Henry recently remembered this segment and revealed that Cena was not aware of the consequences just before the closing moments. Speaking with Isiah Madrigal, he said the following;
John Cena did not know about it until the closing moments
“He [Cena] didn’t know until the final moments before I walked out there. A lot of people were mad at the WWE. I did not take the opportunity to win the title and to run with it. At that time, I was very injured and I told them, I was like, ‘Look, man.’
"I really did want to retire and Vince McMahon talked me out of retiring …He’s like, ‘Let’s just keep it going and then you retire and let it be a real retirement. I want you to really get into it,’ and that’s what happened. That’s how it all came about and I really was retiring.”

Mark Henry ended up challenging Cena for the WWE World Championship at Money in the Bank
“That was my real retirement speech. When I went in the Hall Of Fame, I added to it, but I never did another retirement speech because the one that I did was impossible to top … John Cena didn’t know until I went out to the ring and they were talking to him behind in the back.”
This segment ended up in a WWE Championship match that took place at the Money in the Bank event of 2013, where John Cena defended the title against Mark Henry. During his fake retirement speech, Henry said that he won every title apart from the WWE Championship in WWE, so that was what he wanted. Ultimately, Cena ended up making Henry submit, and this was Henry's last major opportunity for the world title.
