LA Knight wrestling career
LA Knight decided to become a professional wrestler at a very young age, and he made his in ring debut at the age of 20 only. Before becoming a professional wrestler, he had an impressive record in school track and field competitions. He started working on the independence regularly from March 2003, and he had been pretty impressive from the very first day of joining the wrestling world.
The first ring name he adopted during his indie career was Deuce. Not to be confused with Deuce from Deuce 'n Domino from the Ruthless Aggression Era of WWE, who is a pigeon professional wrestler and a different person. Knight remained active on the independent circuit for a long time and and multiple Championships from all over the Indies.
He made his first WWE breakthrough back in 2013, got a chance to work in the NXT which is the developmental territory of WWE. He spent around a year in the promotion but did not get to do anything special. Ultimately, he was let go in 2014, and after getting released from WWE, he returned to the independent circuit in the same year.
In 2015, finally got a big chance to work in TNA Wrestling, where he started working under the ring name Eli Drake. He tried to use his "Yeah" catchphrase in TNA, and he continuously used it, but it did not really become a big thing in the promotion. Even though he received a very strong push in TNA Wrestling.
He spent a total of 4 years in the promotion, and he was a World Champion in TNA. He also achieved other successes in the promotion. Moreover, his TNA Wrestling run was quite successful. He left TNA Wrestling in 2019 and returned to the NWA to spent a couple of years in this prestigious promotion.
In 2021, he returned to WWE once again, and he started working in the NXT. This is the first time he has also adopted his iconic ring name, LA Knight. He started working regularly in the NXT, and he received a mid card push. We also won the prestigious Million Dollar Championship one time during his NXT run.
He made his main roster debut in 2022, and Vince McMahon did not see him as a wrestler because of his age, so he decided to book him as a manager. He was also given a new ring name, Max Dupri. He started managing a tag team named Maximum Male Models. It was a lower mid card team, and it never looked like Knight had any future left in WWE.
After Triple H took charge of the Creative team of WWE, he scrapped the Max Dupri character and returned him LA Knight gimmick. But he never saw him as anything more than a lower mid card during his early days. He was having terrible rivalries; one such example was with Bray Wyatt. Their match from Royal Rumble 2023 went on to become one of the worst matches of the entire year.
But Knight's popularity was reaching sky and his catchphrase "Yeah" became extremely popular among the WWE fans. He even became one of the top merchandise sellers of WWE, and Triple H did not waste anytime to start promoting him as an upper mid card. He started his journey as a heel, but his popularity forced WWE officials to turn him babyface.
He won the WWE United States Championship two times, but it does not look like you would ever win the World Championship in WWE despite his popularity, which is still very much intact. Presently, he is having a rivalry with Jey Uso, and he is still one of the most over stars in WWE.
