One thing Vince McMahon was really bad at was giving a proper farewell match to his legends. One of the biggest sufferers of such was Kurt Angle, who was one of the biggest names of WWE during the Attitude Era and the Ruthless Aggression Era, but he was given an awful farewell by Vince McMahon.

His final feud was against Baron Corbin, and the final match of his career he had was at WrestleMania 35, where he was completely humiliated by Corbin. No doubt it was one of the worst retirement matches in professional wrestling history, and McMahon had to receive a lot of backlash for this match.

Kurt Angle remembers his retirement match

After this terrible match at WrestleMania 35, Kurt Angle never wrestled a single match, and this awful match will always be remembered as his retirement match. Recentl,y he spoke with The Undertaker on his “Six Feet Under” podcast, where he discussed his retirement match at WrestleMania 35. The following is what he said about it;

Kurt Angle retired from in ring action back in 2019

“When I watched myself wrestle in WWE my last year, I looked like an old man in the ring. I was like wow, this is brutal. I couldn’t even look at myself. So I knew I had to have knee replacements. I had so much pain in my knees, arthritis and so much damage there.”

“The thing is, when I came back to WWE after I left for 11 years, when I came back I was wrestling really good. But Vince [McMahon] had a different idea. He wanted to induct me into the Hall of Fame first, before I wrestled. So I did the Hall of Fame, and then Vince came to me and said, ‘Hey we want to make you the GM of RAW.’

Baron Corbin was his final opponent

"And I said, ‘Vince, I want to wrestle.’ He said we’ll get to that. So he makes me GM of RAW. And during this time, my knees are arthritic, and they’re getting tighter, and I’m less active. And for eight months I didn’t do anything.”

Kurt Angle returned to WWE in 2017 and he was also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on the same year. He even started working in the ring after returning to action but Vince McMahon gave him a terrible final run which ended with an awful match against Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35 that is already mentioned. Ultimately, Corbin did not have a great push either after retiring Angle, and presently he is not even working in WWE.
