Kurt Angle had an excellent career in amateur wrestling before joining the professional wrestling world, as he had been an Olympic gold medalist in 1996. He always talked about winning an Olympic gold medal with a broken neck, and he even carried his Olympic gold medal during his in ring appearances.
His first professional wrestling appearance dates back to October 1996, when he appeared in ECW, but he did not wrestle. He started training under WWE in 1998, and he made his in ring debut in the same year. His first televised in ring debut dates back to 1999 when he appeared in a segment with Tiger Ali Singh. His first match was against Shawn Stasiak at the Survivor Series 1999 event, where he was victorious. He was quite impressive in his first match in WWE.
After his first appearance at Survivor Series 1999, he started appearing in the WWE ring regularly, and soon after making his in ring debut, he was promoted as a main event star. In 2006, Angle decided to leave WWE after Vince McMahon wanted him to be the face of ECW, which he did not like. So he decided to leave the promotion and join TNA Wrestling, which was the biggest competition of WWE back then. He is still considered the biggest signing ever made by TNA Wrestling.
Angle nearly spent a decade in TNA wrestling before leaving the promotion in 2015. He is often considered the biggest name ever in TNA Wrestling as he has been 6 times TNA World Champion and he has also one other major championships in the promotion. He never returned to the promotion after leaving it in 2015.
He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in the class of 2017, and in the same year, he started working in the promotion again. He was portrayed as the on screen General Manager of Monday Night RAW, and he even had some in ring matches. One of the longest running rivalries he had was against Baron Corbin.
His rivalry with Baron Corbin is often considered his worst rivalry ever, as he had been presented in a terrible way by Vince McMahon, who was massively criticized for making such a rivalry. Kurt Angle wrestled his last ever wrestling match at WrestleMania 35 against Baron Corbin in a losing effort. His health issues kept him out of action since then, and unfortunately, he will never be able to return to action again.
