WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash is indeed one of the biggest stars of WWE back in the mid 90s, and he was presented as one of the biggest upcoming stars. Even won the WWE World Championship and defended the title in events like WrestleMania and SummerSlam. No doubt he was one of the biggest projects of WWE during the mid 90s.

But in early 1996, Kevin Nash decided to leave WWE for their biggest rival of the time, WCW. Nash was the only name that left WWE for WCW; his real life best friend, Scott Hall, also decided to join WWE's biggest rival at that time. It was indeed a big blow for WWE, and nobody expected it could survive this blow.

Why Kevin Nash left WWE in order to join WCW

But why did Kevin Nash leave WWE despite being presented as the top star of the promotion? The fans kept on asking Nash this question, and finally, after 30 long years, Nash opened up about the real reason behind leaving WWE and joining their biggest rival, WCW, during that time. Speaking on his “Kliq This” podcast recently, he explained the following;

Kevin Nash was known as Diesel in WWE

“I told this to Vince when I was leaving, and he said, ‘We’re family.’ I said, ‘No, we’re not family. My family is sitting in f*king Arizona right now, and my wife’s about to give birth to my son in fking three months. And I need to know how much I’m going to make in order to start — it’s very hard to financially plan when you don’t know whether you’re going to make $1 or f*king $2 million.”

Nash is a four times WCW World Heavyweight Champion

“And I just said, ‘I’m not even going to tell you what it is.’ I said, ‘I’ve already written it down.’ And I gave it to him, and he read it — and it was great, because it was so classic Vince. He read it, he kind of dropped his head, and he turned his back and took like four steps. And kind of like he was pondering it. It was great. He comes back and he was like, ‘Yeah, I can’t match that.’”

Nash became extremely successful in WCW as he won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship four times in total. Vince McMahon would have pushed him as a main event if he stayed in WWE personally. It was not a big loss for him after he moved to WCW. He is considered a legend of professional wrestling today, and he has also been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
