WWE organized a retirement tour for John Cena throughout 2025, and he had an excellent year in the form of his retirement tour. He started things off by participating in the men's Royal Rumble match, but he came up one man short of winning the whole thing. However, he did not make any mistakes while winning the men's Elimination Chamber match.
Cena also turned heel for the first time in over 21 years at the end of the Elimination Chamber event. He defeated Cody Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 41 to set the record of winning a total of 17 World Championship titles. He dropped the Championship back to the American Nightmare at the main event of SummerSlam.

Did John Cena and WWE have any disagreement over the retirement tour?
Even after dropping the Championship, he continued to deliver excellent matches. Arguably, the best match of his retirement tour to place at the Crown Jewel event, where he faced AJ Styles. It is already being considered one of the most entertaining matches in the history of professional wrestling. And that is not all, he even became a Grand Slam Champion during this retirement tour.

Cena wrestles his final match this Saturday against Gunther
“Cena on this retirement tour, the generosity of his spirit in the ring is unparalleled. There is never a ‘I don’t like this outcome because it doesn’t make me look good.’ There’s a lot of ‘let’s do this in the storyline. Let’s do this in the match,’ which is what you want from the John Cena’s of the world. There is never a ‘Why are you having me lose to Dominik Mysterio?’ He always does what is best for the business and it’s turned out quite well for him.”
“It’s he and Triple H [calling the shots] together, but there has not been a dispute; ‘let’s end with this. No, let’s end this way.’ There has not been a dispute with John Cena since he announced his retirement tour, prior to that, or since he executed his retirement tour. Smooth.” replied Nick Khan.
