The retirement tour of John Cena is finally coming to an end, and he will Russell his final match at the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event on December 13. His final opponent has not been determined yet, and WWE has organized a 16 man tournament to decide the final opponent. The winner of this tournament will challenge him in his retirement match.

John Cena started his retirement tour on the first episode of RAW of 2025, which was also the Netflix RAW Premiere. He started things off with participating in the men's Royal Rumble match, followed by his Elimination Chamber win, heel turn for the first time in 21 years, and, of course, his 17th World title win. It still stands as a record.

He also won the WWE Intercontinental Championship recently in order to become a Grand Slam Champion. Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff recently talked about the retirement of John Cena and explained why it had been so special. While attending an interview with Action Network, he explained the following;

John Cena had a retirement tour throughout 2025

“I like John a lot [and] I have so much respect for John. I don’t know John really well; I don’t want to give the impression that we’re close friends. We’re friends. We exchange texts every once in a while. If I see him, I’m certainly happy to see him, and things like that, but I’m not close to him.

"But I have so much respect for him. John Cena, right now, is achieving something that very few performers ever get a chance to do, and that’s that he’s writing the last sentence of his story in professional wrestling. He gets to write the last sentence.”

He will have his retirement match at the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event on December 13

“He gets to put the period at the end of that sentence. And he gets to close that book and be proud of what he’s done. That’s such an accomplishment, and I’m so happy that John is experiencing that. He deserves to experience that. He’s worked so hard. He’s sacrificed so much. In ways that, you know, some we know about, ways we’ll never know about. He’s had to sacrifice.”

No WWE star ever had such a retirement tour before, and Cena may have started a new trend. AJ Styles has also announced that he will retire at the end of 2026, and rumours have it that he will also have a retirement tour in the same fashion. Cena's retirement work will always be immortal for being the first of its kind, and it was definitely been so special.
