A huge part of the wrestling world believes that John Cena is having the best retirement in the history of professional wrestling, and he has also started a trend by having the retirement tour that started during the Netflix RAW premiere, which was also the first episode of RAW of 2025. He is scheduled to have his final match on December 13.
The last ever opponent of John Cena's professional wrestling career has not been determined yet, and WWE has organised a 16 man tournament to present his final opponent. Gunther is heavily rumored to win this tournament and to go on to challenge The Greatest of All Time at the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event on December 13.

Vince Russo thinks John Cena's retirement tour could have been booked in a better way
Despite being considered one of the best retirements in the history of professional wrestling, former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Vince Russo thinks WWE could not do justice to the retirement tour of John Cena, and it could have been booked in a better way. Speaking on his of “The Coach & Bro” podcast, he explained the following;
“I hope so too, really — for John Cena’s sake. I really hope so. But I just, I don’t honestly know what they can do at this point. I mean, you talk about too little, too late. We should have been going into this thing with Cena being on fire. This should have been on fire. Whatever the angle was, tonight’s show should have been so anticipated because something was going to happen.”

“But instead, we’re tuning in hoping something happens, man. I agree with you 1000%, Coach. I think Cena deserved a lot better. Yes, 1000%. And yeah, my rule of thumb — the way I feel as strongly as I do — because my rule of thumb in writing, and you’ve heard me say this all the time, is: set the table, set the table, set the table, set the table. Cena’s in Boston — this table should have been set months ago. They should have built this for a moment where tonight that place would have exploded.”

Cena will have his final match on December 13 at Saturday Night's Main Event
“You know, guys, if you want me to break down what we’re saying, think about it this way: Triple H is the guy in charge. Triple H oversees creative. Take John Cena out of that spot and put Shawn Michaels in that spot. Are you gonna sit there and tell me this would have been the same presentation had that been Triple H’s buddy Shawn Michaels?”
This might be an opinion of the wrestling legend but majority of the wrestling world still believes that it had been one of the best retirements in the history of professional wrestling and sometimes even believe this is the best retirement run ever. This will definitely start a new trend and AJ Styles is also rumours to have a retirement tour in the same way next year. Styles is also reported to be retiring at the end of 2026.
