John Cena's retirement match has been scheduled for the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event show, which is going to take place on December 13. No final opponent has been officially confirmed yet, but it is reported by various sources, including Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that is final opponent will be Gunther.
The Ring General is presently out of action with multiple injuries that he suffered during the World Heavyweight Championship match at SummerSlam, where he dropped the Championship to CM Punk. Nothing has been confirmed on the return date, but it can be accepted that he will return before the retirement of John Cena.
Vince Russo is not happy with Gunther being projected as the final opponent of John Cena
But professional wrestling legend Vince Russo is not pleased with the report of the retirement match of Cena that is rumoured against Gunther. The former writer of WWE and WCW thinks it will not be a very good idea to book Gunther as the final opponent of Cena. Speaking on his “BroDown” podcast, he said the following;
John Cena has only 3 appearances left in his contract
“Yeah, he’s hurt now. Didn’t he need some sort of surgery or something? Here’s what I’m saying. And here’s what I’m saying, Robert. If they are going to [plan GUNTHER as Cena’s final opponent] be doing that, we should be seeing videos now of GUNTHER rehabbing. We should be seeing them now, him in the gym. Bro, I’ll never forget Mac.”

“When Charlotte was out before Royal Rumble, before she came back at the Royal Rumble, she was putting up her own videos of rehabbing, and I was watching these videos, and I am like, ‘This girl is a freaking beast. She is a freaking beast… not human.’ They never played those on television. That’s the part that I don’t understand. So, if they are planning on GUNTHER, they are wasting all this time now.”
As nothing has been confirmed officially about the final opponent of John Cena, we can still expect to see somebody else getting the opportunity. A large number of fans want to see Edge being the final opponent because he has a history with Cena. Some fans want to see a rising star getting the opportunity. But presently it looks like it is going to be the former two times World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.
