John Cena went through a retirement tour throughout 2025, and he has achieved everything that was missing from his illustrious professional wrestling career. He started things off by turning heel for the first time in 21 years. Things continued with his 17th World Championship win at WrestleMania 41.

Ultimately, he became a Grand Slam Champion by winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship for the first time in his professional wrestling career. But most of the wrestling fans are not happy with his retirement work, as they still complain that it had been booked terribly. Triple H has been blamed for not being able to book Cena's retirement tour properly.

Vince Russo thinks Triple H ruined the legacy of John Cena

Even the critics are slamming Triple H for "ruining" the retirement tour of Cena, as some of them even claim that not only did he fail to book the retirement tour, but he also ruined the legacy of the GOAT. One of the recent critics had been Vince Russo, who had been extremely unhappy with the way Cena's final run had been booked in WWE. Speaking on “The Coach & Bro Show,” he said the following in criticism of Triple H;

John Cena had a retirement tour throughout 2025

“Hardly ever, you know, guys. Again, listen, and everybody knows I might as well change my name to Vince Give-the-WWE-the-Benefit-of-the-Doubt Russo, because I always do that. So guys, I’m gonna assume, and again, guys, we say this all the time, this is why you listen to this show, because we bring you to places that we’ve been. Guys, I’ve been in this place a thousand times before as a writer. I am going to assume it was John, that the finish was John Cena’s idea. Me too, guys, I’m gonna assume that.”

John Cena Celebration

John Cena lost his last ever wrestling match to Gunther via submission

“But as the head writer, as the head booker, if I am in that conversation and I am listening to Cena, I am saying, John, I respect the s*** out of you. We ain’t doing that, John. Vince, why not, John? It’s real simple.

"You’ve built a 25-year career of saying never quit, never quit, never quit. So, on your very last match, you are gonna quit, therefore sending a message to all those kids and all the kids in Make-A-Wish that, hey, guys, sooner or later, you’re gonna quit? You really want to do that, John? No way. No way.”

John Cena wrestled his last ever professional wrestling match on December 13 against Gunther at the Saturday Night's Main Event, and he suffered a defeat in his final match. Not only did he lose the match, but he also tapped out for the first time in 21 long years. The majority of the fans are not happy with this decision, but unlike the rest of the retirement tour, we believe it was the right decision.
