The WWE Intercontinental Championship was the only achievement that John Cena had yet to achieve by John Cena in his legendary professional wrestling career. He is active in the main roster of WWE since 2002 and since then he has won all the major titles in WWE at the only thing that he could never win was the prestigious WWE Intercontinental Championship.

It was also the only achievement that kept him away from being a WWE Grand Slam Champion. A large number of fans were expecting to see John Cena become a Grand Slam Champion because it was the only achievement he had not received in his illustrious professional wrestling career.

Jim Cornette thinks Gunther will beat John Cena to take the IC from him

WWE officials did not hesitate to give him the title either, as he challenged the previous champion Dominik Mysterio two weeks ago on RAW, and if it had him to win the Intercontinental Championship and become a Grand Slam champion. Nothing remained unachieved in Cena's WWE career after he won the IC Championship on RAW.

He will defend the title against Dominik Mysterio again at the upcoming Survivor Series event, but wrestling legend Jim Cornette thinks he will not drop the title to Dirty Dom; instead, Gunther will be the one to take the title away from him in his retirement match. Speaking on his “Drive Thru” podcast, he said the following;

John Cena Dominik Mysterio

He will defend the title at Survivor Series against Dominik Mysterio

“We’ll see what happens, but I would think that the obvious thing is for Cena to then put Gunther over for the Intercontinental title on his last night on Saturday Night’s Main Event. That will actually be him doing a job that will do some good for somebody whereas the one to Brock didn’t accomplish anything long term. They’re not even talking about it.”

Gunther is presently active in the Last Time is Now tournament, and he is doing quite well. He had been the favourite to win the tournament and be the final opponent of John Cena from the very first day. He is already recognised as the longest reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion, it is unlikely that he will win the title again. So it can be expected that Cena drops the WWE IC Championship to Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series.
