Money in the Bank is indeed one of the biggest attractions of WWE for the last two decades. It was first introduced back in 2005, and the first match took place at WrestleMania 21. Edge won the first Money in the Bank contract, and he cashed it in successfully on John Cena at the New Year's Revolution Event of 2006.

Over the years, many wrestlers won this iconic contract, and most of them had been successful in cashing in the contract to win a World Championship. No Money in the Bank cash in ever failed until John Cena's failure to cash it in on CM Punk at RAW 1000, as the Big Show cost him his opportunity to win the Championship.

But surprisingly, John Cena was not the first wrestler to be listed as the first field wrestler to cash in a Money in the Bank contract to win a title. According to the former two times WWE World Champion, The Miz was planned to be the one to be listed first failed to cash in. Speaking on his Unlikely Podcast, he explained the following;

John Cena was the first wrestler registered a failed cash in

“I was the guy that was going to cash in and lose. That was just my trajectory, the first time, the first person to ever cash in and lose,” The Miz explained. “That’s something that The Miz would do, that is that character, that is what would happen.”

The Miz was supposed to be the first failed wrestler to cash in Money in the Bank

“That day I walked in, I remember sitting down and hearing, ‘You’re going over tonight.’ ‘Wait what?’ ‘You’re winning the WWE Championship.’ And by the way, this is close, not close, but close enough to WrestleMania,” claimed the former two times WWE World Champion The Miz.

The Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank contract in November 2010 in an episode of Monday Night RAW. The previous WWE Champion, Randy Orton, was having a match with Wade Barrett, and Barrett injured Orton's knee badly. The Miz took advantage of the situation and won the title. John Cena will always be remembered as the first wrestler to fail to cash in the Money in the Bank to win a title.
