A lot of speculation is going on about the potential opponent of the farewell match of John Cena. No date for his farewell match has been officially confirmed, but it is believed that he will have his last ever match in WWE on December 13, at the Saturday Night's Main Event show.
A lot of names had been pitched to be the final opponent of John Cena. Rumours even suggest that WWE officials are pushing hard to bring Edge to WWE only to feature him as an opponent of Cena during his retirement tour. Edge is presently under contract with AEW, and it will not be easy to feature this match in WWE anytime soon.
Teddy Long wants to see Steve Austin as the farewell opponent of John Cena
Multiple other names are also pitched to be featured as the desired final opponent of Cena. WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long recently pitched the name of Stone Cold Steve Austin to be his farewell opponent. He recently spoke on this matter while speaking on the “Road Trip After Hours” podcast, and he said the following;
John Cena and Steve Austin never had a match
“Well, if it was me and I know it wouldn’t happen- and I may be just thinking outside the box… but what I would like to have? I would have brought someone in special and I don’t know whether Steve would, you know, I’m pretty sure he might do business, (John) Cena and Stone Cold Steve Austin, that’s what I would have liked to seen.”

“Well that’s why it would work so good. Because he’s one of those guys that didn’t go back on his word, he didn’t go back. But just here, if you build it right and get a story to go on, then that’s something that may excite him and it makes him want to come back. It’s easy to do!”
John Cena vs Stone Cold Steve Austin has always been a dream match, but it can never see the daylight since Steve Austin retired from ending action in early 2003, and it was also the time when Cena was rising as a WWE star. Steve Austin returned to WWE for one final match at WrestleMania 38, but he never showed up after that. This match is not impossible, but very difficult to see.
