John Cena worked in his farewell match on December 13 at Saturday Night's Main Event, and WWE organised is 16 man tournament before the event to determine his last ever opponent. Some of the biggest stars of the promotion at this moment, like LA Knight and Solo Sikoa, participated in it, including a couple of ex WWE stars like Dolph Ziggler and Zack Ryder, who also returned to participate.

But ultimately, the tournament was won by Gunther, and he challenged John Cena in his farewell match at the mentioned event. The majority of the fans expected to see Cena win in his retirement match. But one second, WWE reminded us that life is not a fairy tale, when Cena not only lost the match, but he lost the match via submission.

John Cena Final Appearance

John Cena praised Gunther for being his final opponent

The fans were absolutely furious after the match, and they started showing their hatred towards the Ring General. But John Cena has nothing but praise to share for the former two times World Heavyweight Champion. Recently, the retired professional wrestler spoke with Cody Rhodes on his “What Do You Wanna’ Talk About?” podcast, where he explained the following;

Gunther defeated John Cena on December 13 in his final match

“Like I see things from a different plane. He sees things from this plane. Yeah. And I love that because he is relentless in mastery of a piece of canvas. Relentless. We can talk about a myriad of things. You’ll have a lane of conversation with him, but it’ll be enthusiastic. He is you like a flat white. He’s a coffee nerd. Wrestling and like with purpose, he has an idea of what it should be and an idea of what offends him.

"And I cannot tell you how much respect I have for him. And I know he is not gonna say the same thing about me and he shouldn’t. And I’m okay with that. It is such an honor to be able to step in there with someone whose moniker is The Ring General.

John Cena Gunther

Cena tapped out in this match for the first time in 21 years

"And in my last one, if I could add a star to his uniform, someone who believes the mat is sacred, I believe the same thing. We just see it through different lenses. I hope you have him on. I can’t wait to hear what he has to say.”

After Gunther defeated John Cena by submission in his retirement match, he started to receive a lot of hatred from the fans. WWE has decided to capitalise on this hatred by starting to put him over as the biggest heel of the promotion. He appeared on RAW on the very next episode to talk about his victory over Cena, and he even showed disrespect towards The Greatest of All Time, which pretty much cleared the intentions of WWE.
