“Moreover, I wanna take the tail end of this thing, — and I’m so glad about the tournament and about Saturday Night’s Main Event — and get everybody to look at the future of the business. Because I believe that’s — whatever energy was given to me. The veterans and old-timers gave me their energy and equity by teaching me and certainly doing honors. And forever, the tradition has been, ‘Oh, you do your last match.

"You kind of go out in your back and you do the honors and that’s it.’ No, I think we can do more. I think we can take the eyes that care about showing up to our show, and expose them to the future and what’s next. And I love the Time Is Now Tournament, that we have some way to earn the chance to qualify as my last opponent.

“And I really wanna take my hats off to Triple H. I called him up, I said, ‘I got an idea. We gotta do two hours for the tribute show. And if you do a whole John Cena tribute, two things are gonna happen. You’re either gonna do too much or too little. You’re never gonna please everybody. I would like to propose that we have big name WWE Superstars fighting exhibition matches versus the brightest in NXT.

"So that way we have a sold out building. Hopefully the world’s watching on Saturday Night’s Main Event. I get to wrestle one final time. But in doing that, everyone also gets to look at what to look forward to. And I think that’s the most important thing. We’re just — yes, that’s my last match. But it’s collectively, we’re all just kind of closing a chapter of an era in sports entertainment. And I want people to be able to look forward to what’s next.”

John Cena will defend the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Dominic Mysterio at the upcoming Survivor Series event. He defeated Mysterio just a couple of weeks ago to win the WWE Intercontinental Championship and become a Grand Slam Champion. His title reign will definitely not last long since he will wrestle his final match in December, so we can expect him to drop the title at Survivor Series.
