Jey Uso has always been treated as a tag team wrestler in WWE, and he earned most of his success as a tag team wrestler along with his twin brother Jimmy Uso. But in 2023, WWE decided to push him as a singles wrestler, and things started off with an Undisputed WWE championship match against Roman Reigns at SummerSlam of the mentioned year.
2024 had been a great year for Jey Uso, as he had a complete singles run this year. He managed some big victories, and he even won the WWE Intercontinental Championship. In 2025, he had been promoted as a main eventer for the first time in his career, as they started with a shocking Royal Rumble win, which ended up in a world championship match at WrestleMania 41.

Stevie Richards explained why the main event push of Jey Uso failed
He won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Gunther at WrestleMania 41. But despite the live crowd always loving him, he has been totally hated by the fans online. Ultimately, he has been cut down from the main event status. Professional wrestling Legend Stevie Richards recently explained why the main event push of Jey Uso did not work. Speaking on his “The Stevie Richards Show,” he said;
“Because the nickname means nothing. They don’t stick to why the nickname is part of the character. ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso is really booking yourself into a corner. I would refuse, because if you’re not the main event, you look like an idiot. I agree with that.
Jey Uso started working as a single wrestler back in 2023
"Macho Man Randy Savage, even Duke ‘The Dumpster’ Droese — you understand that it’s a trash man. You know, Bob Holly had some nickname with the race car stuff, but even the character… I mean, these are dark times.”
“People that like wrestling as my second job — like they work TNA or something — I have a full-time job outside wrestling. But what I’m saying is, like, Seth Rollins is probably the biggest… like he’s the Paul Orndorff of switching names. Like Paul Orndorff switched babyface and heel. Like, what are you?

He returned to the Tag Team division last week on RAW
"And it almost becomes a joke when he reads off literally all the gimmicks he’s had. You ever see him do that? Where he reads, I’m this, I’m that, and everything? You’re literally just talking about how you haven’t committed to a character. So yeah, the ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso — like Jey should never even have accepted that one.”
Recently, it had been announced on RAW that The Usos are now back in the Tag Team division again, made it pretty clear at that WWE has gave up on Jey's singles push, and if he never returns to the main event status as a single wrestler again again, he will will always be considered one of the worst Royal Rumble winners and one of the worst World Champions in WWE history.
