Gunther created history on December 13 when he defeated John Cena by submission in his farewell match. It was the first time in 21 long years that John Cena tapped out, and the credit goes to the Ring General. After he defeated John Cena in his retirement match, he started receiving tremendous hate from the fans.

WWE has decided to capitalised this hatred, and they had him feature on the opening segment of the following week of RAW, and he delivered a promo on making John Cena tap out in his farewell match. He started bragging about it, and he even disrespected John Cena by using controversial words against him.

Bubba Ray Dudley thinks WWE killed the aura of Gunther last week on RAW

The fans were absolutely furious after the incident, and they have started to loathe him. After he cut the promo, Adam Pearce started yelling at him backstage and gave him a night off. WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley is extremely unhappy with this backstage segment, and he explained why it completely killed the aura of Gunther. Speaking on The Busted Open Radio, he explained the following;

Adam Pearce yelled at Gunther for disrespecting John Cena

“I hope they write into the storyline that GUNTHER chokes out Adam Pearce and he’s in a coma for months. What the ** is Adam Pearce emasculating GUNTHER for? Because he didn’t like what GUNTHER said? You have Adam Pearce throw out GUNTHER? This monster heel that we just created over the past 48 [hours]? And what does GUNTHER do? He just sits there and takes it and goes home? And that’s one of the last things we saw? Come on, man. Turn that entire segment around.”

The Ring General is rumoured to defeat Brock Lesnar in 2026

“The only way, in my eyes, to make what they did … work, was to have it continue to happen, where Pearce is voicing his displeasure on GUNTHER, and then GUNTHER eventually just chokes him out.” said the Tag Team legend regarding the backstage segment from RAW last week.

The Ring General has already retired as one of the biggest names in wrestling in 2025, Goldberg and John Cena. He is also heavily reported to end the career of Brock Lesnar in the future. It is quite clear that WWE wants to promote him as the biggest heel of the promotion, and after he defeated John Cena in his farewell match, it looks very much possible.
