Gunther has already created history this year by retiring as one of the biggest names in the history of professional wrestling. In July, he retired WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg. He challenged The Ring General for the World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday Night's Main Event in a losing effort.
On December 13, Gunther retired John Cena, who was having a retirement tour throughout 2025, and on the mentioned date, he wrestled in his farewell match against the former two times World Heavyweight Champion in a losing effort. Not only did he defeat him, he even made Cena submit for the first time in 21 long years.

Gunther to potentially retire AJ Styles next
Rumors have started to float that he will also retire Brock Lesnar in the near future, and reports have it that the duo will meet each other for the first time at the upcoming big event WrestleMania 42. Brock Lesnar recently made his return to WWE, and he has been quite dominant ever since returning. It is said that he is getting all this from booking just to put over the Austrian professional wrestler.
Gunther is a two times World Heavyweight Champion
But Brock Lesnar is not the only wrestler who is potentially going to be retired by Gunther. According to WWE legend Stevie Richards, AJ Styles, who is potentially closing in on his retirement, too, will also be retired by the Ring General. Speaking on his “The Stevie Richards Show,” he explained the following;

He has already retired John Cena and Goldberg in 2025
“Here’s a thought that I just had. By the way, do you think Gunther is going to be the new legend killer? He retired Goldberg. He retired Cena. [So] what if Orton’s next? What if Orton’s [retiring] in the next year to 18 months? What if he retires AJ Styles? They could because how many times did Orton like destroy Legends?” said the former WWE star Stevie Richards.
AJ Styles has already reported to have a retirement age in 2026 in the same fashion as John Cena, and he has promised that he will never return to in ring action once he officially announces his retirement. Stevie Richards also mentioned Randy Orton, who would be retired by the Ring General, but he is only 45 right now, so we can expect him to continue working in the ring for a while more.
