Gunther calls the fans hypocritical for showing support to John Cena

The Ring General reminded the fans how they hated Cena when he was in his prime and they always gave him negative reactions for most of the time periods of his professional wrestling career. He felt the fans had been hypocritical in showing support to Cena. Speaking on TMZ’s “Inside the Ring” podcast, he said the following;

Gunther defeated John Cena in his farewell match

“I think I’ve never seen something like that before, but it’s also funny when you think back, I don’t know, like when was that? 10? 10-15 years or something like that, maybe even longer, he was the most hated guy on the whole roster. He was a babyface, but he went out there, and he got booed everywhere he went.

He is presently being put over as the biggest heel of WWE

"People complained that he got shoved down their throats and whatever, and here we are. Yeah, 10-15 years late, and people act like it never happens, and the situation never existed, and now they all love him. Yeah, a bit hypocritical if you ask me sometimes. But that’s what the fans are. They — whatever is the flavor of the month, they jump on it.”

After Gunther started receiving immense hatred from the fans, WWE officials decided to take advantage of the situation by promoting him as the biggest heel of the promotion. He even appeared on RAW after the farewell, where he cut a promo to show further this respect toward John Cena. The Ring General is doing a tremendous job to capitalise the heat.
