The 20th anniversary of Eddie Guerrero's death is edging closer, and the wrestling world mourns one of the greatest of all time. It is widely believed that he could have been one of the biggest names in the world of professional wrestling if he were alive, and he was also one of the biggest projects of the promotion before his death.

Before his death, he was scheduled to be a part of Team SmackDown at the upcoming Survivor Series event of the same year. Ultimately, he was replaced by Randy Orton after his death, who became the sole survivor for SmackDown. Later, it was reported that Eddie Guerrero was supposed to be the sole survivor for SmackDown.

JBL reflects on the death of Eddie Guerrero

His final match was against Mr Kennedy in an episode of Smackdown, which he won by disqualification, and after the match, Kennedy hit him with a steel chair directly on his head. A lot of fans believe that this steel chair shot took his life. Former WWE Champion JBL recently talked about it while speaking with the “Something to Wrestle” podcast. He said;

JBL and Eddie Guerrero had a WWE Championship match at the Great American Bash 2004

“No. Not one time. And I don’t—I think I’ve heard that over the years. It kind of sounds familiar, but nobody thought that. You know, guys have gotten thousands of chair shots over the years, and guys don’t die from chair shots. I get why the conspiracy gets put together. Hard chair shot, you die however long later it was. And I get why people could put, you know, two and two together like that and get that. But nobody at the time thought that. And I certainly don’t believe that.”

“His heart—apparently, his heart just stopped. You know, Chavo told the story about finding him in his bathroom. You know, he got up in the morning, brushed his teeth, and just died. His heart just quit. His life was over. You know, his life ran out, and, there was nothing really. Eddie had—there weren’t any specific health issues at the time, and there certainly wasn’t anything in-ring. You know, it wasn’t like a deteriorating condition.”

“Unfortunately, his heart was just giving out on him, and he didn’t know it. And all of a sudden, it just stopped one morning. And, you know, there was nothing that led up to it—that he was tired, or he was despondent, or anything like that. There was nothing like that. I was around him as much as anybody, you know, and Chavo hadn’t mentioned anything about it either. He just got up one morning, and unfortunately, his heart stopped.”

JBL and Eddie Guerrero had a rivalry for the WWE Championship in 2004, and at the Great American Bash event of 2004, JBL defeated Guerrero to win the WWE Championship. This rivalry did not continue after this event, as Guerrero continued his feud with Kurt Angle after that, and JBL enjoyed his WWE Championship run until WrestleMania 21.
