Cody Rhodes won the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam after he defeated John Cena. This is his second world title run in WWE. He dropped his first World title to John Cena at WrestleMania 41, only to regain it at SummerSlam. John Cena is pretty much out of the world title picture now, and he needs a new challenger for his title.

Two weeks ago on SmackDown, he had a tag team match where he teamed up with John Cena to take on the team of Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre. The match went to disqualification, and at the end, Drew McIntyre delivered a horrific beatdown to the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.

Why Drew McIntyre attacked Cody Rhodes on SmackDown

But why did McIntyre beat down Cody Rhodes in such a terrible way? McIntyre had some explanations about the attack on SmackDown last week, and he made things even clearer when he recently appeared on the Huge Pop podcast with Donnie Dasilva and former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas. He explained the following about the attack;

Cody Rhodes defeated John Cena at SummerSlam to win his second World title

“Back on SmackDown, where it’s a WWE Championship… The title I helped during the pandemic the entire time, the title I won… The guy that’s got…. It’s the one I want to beat for Cody Rhodes. 20-year you know, relationship with him and I, former tag team champions as kids… Former chosen ones, I guess… For the future, John chosen ones had to choose ourselves. But different destinations we’re at right now, where I open my eyes to the truth about so many things that he’s so desperate to be like, so desperate for attention,”

Drew McIntyre will potentially challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship next

“I wonder if they want to take the title off him… And teach him the hard way the reality of the wrestling world, the reality of the world, because he’s still in the mindset I was in 2020. So I’m excited possibly getting my hands on him.” [H/T WrestlingNews.co]

After the attack on SmackDown, Rhodes has not appeared on WWE television yet. But it is pretty much believed that the Scottish Psychopath is the next in line to challenge him for the Undisputed WWE Championship. We can also expect this iconic duo to have a title match at the upcoming WWE premium live event, Clash at Paris.
