At the Clash at the Castle event of 2022, he betrayed his father by attacking him, turning heel in the process for the first time. This heel turn also helped him to become a proper singles wrestler.

Every time he entered the ring or tried to speak on the mic, the fans booed him so hard that he kept forgetting his words. But ultimately, with hard work, he gained the trust of the fans, and nowadays, he gets massive cheers from the live crowd. He has established himself as one of the biggest fan favourites despite working as a heel.
Dominik Mysterio is presently having a rivalry with John Cena
At WrestleMania 41, he won the WWE Intercontinental Championship, and after having a wonderful run with the title, he dropped the title to John Cena recently on RAW. He will challenge John Cena for the title at the upcoming Survivor Series event. Recently, he remembered his controversial segment with Dragon Lee on RAW, which ended up causing him a warning from the WWE officials. Speaking with "Towers of Power," he revealed the following;

"I never think it's far enough. But I have gotten — I don't want to say in trouble — but I'm the type of guy to ask for forgiveness before permission," he said. "There's been a few times where I've gone to the back and I'm like, 'Oh sh*t, sorry. I didn't know.'
"One of them was I spit on Dragon Lee. I got to the back, first thing, they were like, 'We don't spit on people.' I was like, 'I didn't know.' I was like, 'I didn't spit on him, ' I was like, 'I spit my gum.' And I was like, [it's] two very different things. They were like, 'Dom, we do not spit on people.' I was like, 'That's my bad. I was like, [That's] on me, I didn't know.'" Said the former WWE Intercontinental Champion, Dominik Mysterio.
