DDP joined WWE in 2001 after the death of WCW in the same year, and he was one of the few major names that transitioned from WCW to WWE. He was a huge attraction in WCW as he had also been a three time WCW World Heavyweight Champion. WWE fans were extremely happy to have him in their favorite promotion.
The first storyline he played in WWE was a stalker angle. For a number of weeks, a masked stalker was seen harassing Sara Frank, who was then the wife of the Undertaker. Later, the masked figure revealed his face, and it was none other than the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion DDP. He also started a rivalry with the Brothers of Destruction following this angle.
DDP explored the insider on his stalker storyline
DDP recently remembered this storyline, and he revealed that it was pre planned on how things would go during this angle. He also revealed many insiders about his first storyline in WWE. The retired professional wrestler recently appeared on “The Ariel Helwani Show,” where he stated the following about this storyline;
“You know, they told me they wanted me to stalk Taker’s wife. And Vince is there. Shane’s there. And he Kimberly’s there. If I was in WCW, and they told me that bull** angle, I’d go, ‘* you.’ Seriously, I’m gonna be stalking somebody else’s wife?! If I would have thought that that was — actually, you know, I didn’t realize, all right, because I was. So there’s no real reason for me to think that they were gonna, you know, not even give me an opportunity.
DDP joined WWE in 2001, only to leave the promotion in 2002
"I just did Take’s [The Undertaker] podcast about five or six months ago. And at some — what a great — I mean, he was so amazing. And we had such a great talk, and I’d spent some time with him on his new show, WWE LFG, because I — they brought me in about finishes. And then we got to the part where we’re gonna talk about WWE, right?
DDP retired from in ring action back in 2020
"And I have no idea where he’s gonna go with it, but I’m gonna just gonna go on the ride because he put me over so huge going into that. And then he said, ‘You know, I can’t,’ I’m paraphrasing, I can’t remember exactly how he said it, but, ‘I’ve been not accused, but I’ve had some fans who are really pissed off at me because they think I was trying to ruin your career.’”
Page may have been a top star in WCW, but he was never promoted as a main event star in WWE. He was only treated as a lower mid card talent and the only thing he achieved in WWE was a WWE European Championship run, which was the lower mid card title of the promotion back then. He also won the WWE Tag Team Championship one time. He left WWE in 2002 and never returned to the promotion on a long turn deal. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.
