There are countless reasons behind the fall of WCW, but one of the biggest factors will always be awful booking. WCW writers created numerous poor storylines that ultimately dragged the promotion down to ruin. One of the worst booking decisions of WCW back then was David Arquette winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

David Arquette had nothing to do with professional wrestling, and he was just an actor. He featured in the Ready to Rumble movie released in 2000, which was actually made to promote WCW. The writers were so desperate to promote the movie that they gave one of the actors of the movie the WCW World Heavyweight title in reality.

DDP remembers David Arquette winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship

The stupidity did not end here. It was a Tag Team match for the World Championship, where the one to get the pinfall would win the title. WCW World Heavyweight Champion DDP teamed up with David Arquette to take on the team of Jeff Jarrett and Eric Bischoff. David Arquette pinned Eric Bischoff to win the Championship.

Surprisingly, DDP was shown to be happy after dropping the Championship to Arquette. He had been one of the worst decisions ever made in the history of professional wrestling. DDP recently remembered this match while speaking with Chris Van Vliet on the Insight Podcast. Here is what the WWE Hall of Famer had to say about this infamous match;

“I know, so stupid. That was stupid. I love David, go see You Can’t Kill David Arquette. Pull that documentary up, because he really won the hearts of the wrestling fans. I’m an actor, I’m playing a part there. And Bischoff reminded me of that beforehand, because that’s when him and Russo just came back together. That was the first big decision that they made.

"It is what it is. But, you know, look at it today. I mean, you got Jelly [Roll] out there. You got so many celebrities out there. I think if you go back and look at the match of me and [Karl] Malone against [Dennis] Rodman and [Hulk] Hogan, as far as celebrity matches, man, it’s at the top of the heap, that Main Event spot. I was really proud of Jelly Roll though.” said the wrestling legend.
