Damian Priest is indeed one of the biggest names in WWE right now, and he has also won the former World Heavyweight Championship. He has been active in the promotion for the last 7 years, and he is doing a fantastic job in the main roster after spending a couple of years on the NXT.
He joined the main roster in 2021, and he had always been promoted as one of the strongest forces of the roster. In 2023, he won the men's Money in the Bank ladder match, and he cashed it in at WrestleMania 40 to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

But the early days of his life were very difficult for him. He had to spend a large part of his life homeless, which he admitted himself. Later, he got a break in professional wrestling and worked on the independent circuit for a complete decade before joining the Ring Of Honor in 2015.

He may have been working in WWE since 2018, but he attempted WWE Tryouts before officially making his dream breakthrough. Recently, the former World Heavyweight Champion spoke with Roberts on the Notsam Wrestling podcast, where he revealed the unfortunate story of his first failed WWE tryout. Here is what he had to say;

"I remember my first tryout with WWE, it was, I wanna say, 2009…2010 I think it was, and I was way out of shape. I came in injured, and I bombed. It was so bad. I can look back now, and I’m like, embarrassed that I was there. I did not belong there. I wasn’t ready. Even if I was healthy and in better shape, I still wasn’t ready.”

Damian Priest is the prime example of hard work always pays off. It never looked like he would ever be pushed as a main event star in WWE when he started his main roster journey, but his hard work actually paid off, and not only is he winning top Championships but also having big feuds with some of the biggest names of the wrestling world today.
